Thoughts and vision

“Due to the Portuguese and British invasion of the coastal areas, the elders of our community had a misconception that they are trying to make an impact and change our religion. Hence they decided to boycott the English education system.  From the 16th century to the day of independence, we were lagging behind in the field of formal education. During 1947, many Urdu speaking Muslims decided to move to Pakistan while the Beary community decided to stay in India. Post 1970s our community started improving due to education and employment opportunities in the Gulf countries.  But still the male population of our community was lagging behind in education due to the responsibilities as they were forced to go abroad and work in order to take care of their siblings and family.  This is still seen in the community. The solution to this problem is to get into agricultural self-employment.  We have many opportunities in our country.  People have to put an effort to find and explore opportunities. The male population should give importance to education so that there won’t be any issues in the future due to status and differences. There are a lot of political and religious disputes going on in our community.  This is mainly due to the division and groups of our community.  We must always respect our elders.  We have many wonderful individuals in our community such as Mr. B.A. Moideen and Mr. Abdul Hameed who helped the community in the field of education and legal field”

“Another problem in our community is wastage of money. People spend a lot on conducting extravagant marriages and parties. Instead of this, one must concentrate on charity.  We have a good number of organizations in our community but lack a federation or a centralized system.  We do have leaders in our community and a majority of them bring their own system based on their knowledge and opinion which in turn results in differences and conflicts. We need to put aside our differences and work for the betterment of the community”

“I see a lot of today’s youth losing their way. The main reason to this is that their parents don’t give them time or attention. They are unaware of the fact that their children are gradually losing their way to darkness.  Usually the men of the family go to work while the women indulge in home activities. They fail to give attention to their children. This has to change. The Masjid is run by the Jamath in villages and Trust in the cities. In order to maintain a balance, a federation is necessary.  Every Masjid should have an information log containing information regarding every resident so that the federation can help or support them in time of need. Our community is also lagging behind in Masters and Post Graduate education.  People should work hard to learn and make their place in the world known. This will help them as well as the community.” –Thoughts expressed by Advocate B.A. Mohammed Hanif.
